happy birthday ben!

i threw an 80's party for ben's birthday last week. it was a ton of fun! ben's so silly when it comes to his birthday..he never wants it to be a big deal, and doesn't want others to make it a big deal. i had to pull some teeth to get him to give me permission to throw him a party..and especially had to pull some so he would actually allow me to invite people to the party :). hehe. no, but, he really did have a good time (he always does..and always admits to it afterwards).
here's his birthday cake. this cake took me FOREVER to make..but was SO FUN! it's a rubik's cube if ya can't tell :). total 80's game!!...

i painted some cassette tapes neon and hung them from our ceiling fan :)...and here's the 80's candy bowl (spiderman bowl of course..one of ben's favorite shows when he was little). poprocks, bazooka gum (remember the comic strips inside each piece?!), scooby doo candy, flintstone candy, and tom & jerry candy filled it up. oh, and a painted vhs tape :)...like i said, i painted vhs tapes in neon colors for some of the decor :). i also found some 80's sunglasses, some slap bracelets, some 80's pins (rainbow brite, alf, karate kid, smurfs, she-ra/he-man, and my little pony), and some neon glow bracelets! so fun!...the birthday boy & his little guy...

some of the guests in their 80's getup!... everyone got polaroid pics with mr t!...i found this inflatable boom box on ebay..it even played music (had an ipod dock). it was pretty sweet! :)... old school nintendo!! we played pacman and mario bros throughout the party. man, i use to love nintendo! it brought back so many memories... my make shift rocker stage :)...here's some of the decor. i set out a bunch of 80's stuff up on our counter..and had totally 80's trivial pursuit on the coffee table for people to play... the boys eating their pizza :). i found their shirts at target..they had 80's cartoon characters on them (old school stuff is totally coming back)..and were striped just like an 80's t shirt. they were perfect! :)... like i said, i put out a bunch of 80's memorabilia out on the counter. i found a lot of it on ebay :). check out the alf lunchbox & the rainbow brite. so cool back in the day!...i hung slinky's from the ceiling..hehe. and the trapper keeper, wow! do you remember these things?! i had a trapper keeper EXACTLY like this one..so i just had to get it :)...

erin & her boyfriend, steve, rockin' out with the blow up 80's style guitars :)... here's mr. t again :)...one of the best parts of the night was the poetry reading we had for ben! since poetry readings faded out in the 80's i decided to bring one back :). it was mostly funny. i told everyone to come with a poem for ben/about ben (he didn't know about this part). we had a blast listening to everyone :). i need to upload one of the videos. everyone wrote AWESOME poems! thanks guys!!...kim & her fiance, travis. lookin' good guys!... great grandma & grandpa slaydon with gavin. we love you so much!..uncle carter & gavin :). gavin kept telling him to take the wig off :)...singing to ben...kaders eating some bday cake... kaden liked the black frosting :). hehe!...i have so many fun photos! i want to post all of them but it would be the longest post! :) thanks EVERYONE for coming and making ben's birthday so great!
